The Water Cycle

We frequent the space that lies between us

like salt collecting on a shore

Always giving into itself

To cycle like water or the synodic month

In this space, I am content

Squeezing my legs together to remind myself that my ovaries are still there

That the people on TV are still not eating

That I am getting older and angrier and the days, longer

The summer is a beast and I love you like the sun

Coming back to you each day like the night

I lap your sweat up, in the heat

I dream her up

Mourning the loss of someone who never existed

I dream she has my thighs but prefers to hide behind yours

And when I reach out for you both

You are a fever

And I miss her. Like a marathon

In another dream with a another me

I am just running

And when I wake up

And the moon is just another phase

I am still running
